Position Summary

The SVP, Medical Director provides scientific/medical knowledge and strategic support to teams on multiple agency accounts; synthesizes a broad range of category and competitive information to identify unique strategies which will benefit our clients’ brands; ensures that the highest levels of scientific/medical rigor and strategic integrity are maintained across agency deliverables, including new business pitches, presentations, and produced materials.


  • Overall scientific strategy support for a portfolio of accounts; guides agency projects to ensure that they are medically and scientifically sound and adhere to the highest levels of integrity
  • Understands current practices and standards, and stays current with future trends and directions, for therapeutic categories for which s/he is responsible
  • Thoroughly familiar with each brand’s data, clinical trial program, target audience, market landscape and competitors, often acting as an agency partner to the brand’s own internal medical directors
  • Acts as a resource to ghg staff (account, strategy, copy and art) to increase knowledge of relevant health conditions and therapies relevant to ongoing and potential business ventures
  • Provides creative copy teams with support in understanding therapeutic categories and interpretation of data. Available for consultation with creative teams to brainstorm copy flow, data visualization and ongoing review of projects for accuracy and relevance
  • Coordinates with clients and ghg teams in the development and implementation of sound marketing strategies and tactics
  • Data mining of client’s and competitor’s data when necessary, to identify new claims or support existing claims consistent with the client’s strategic direction
  • Medical resourcing and the ability to act as point of contact for senior client medical officers
  • When needed, attends local/national/international scientific conferences to gather data, draft conference reports, interview experts and HCPs regarding competitive products and evolving therapies, interface with client medical and marketing teams on-site
  • Participates in all aspects of business development as needed, to prepare disease backgrounders and gap analyses, conduct research (data reviews and in-person interviews with physicians as needed), assist account, strategy and creative teams in development of content and, when needed, participate in presentations to prospective clients
  • Maintains relationships with important community physicians and opinion leaders in therapeutic categories of importance to ghg
  • Conducts primary research amongst key opinion leaders, other health care professionals and patients to increase knowledge surrounding current or future agency accounts
  • Performs analysis of secondary research to identify important facts and insights related to a disease state or therapy
  • Works closely, with other divisions of ghg to provide medical/scientific strategic support on an as needed basis


  • Undergraduate BS degree in relevant human sciences
  • Doctoral degree (PharmD, PhD or MD) in medically-related field preferred


  • Research and analysis position within a healthcare-focused communications company (Agency, Med Ed, Consultant)
  • Oncology and hematology category experience preferred


  • Highly organized individual who is able to effectively synthesize information, and communicate clearly with clients and agency staff and senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams and projects simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of pharma regulations on promotion
