Position Summary:

The VP, Medical Director has at least 5-6 years experience, and demonstrated outstanding leadership and ambassadorial skills. Although able to perform all the tasks required of Biomedical Writers, Associate Medical Directors and Medical Directors, the VP Medical Director is expected to be skilled at delegating workflow and training. The individual will operate largely independently with minimal supervision within Phase Five, adhering to all best practices on all projects as dictated by our own standards and all external laws and guidelines. The VP, Medical Director partners with clients, opinion leaders, other internal and external scientific professionals as well as with Phase Five Account Services team to ensure ongoing, positive relationships with our clients.

Responsibilities: ##

  • Effectively manage multiple accounts from a scientific perspective including publication plans, advisory boards and symposia

  • Manage scientific research in new business pitches with account services counterpart

  • Provide references & direction, answer questions, manuscript overview concept sheet and review/critique drafts

  • Delegate literature search on background of drug and/or therapeutic category

  • Understand, execute and drive strategic direction in partnership with account services counterpart

  • Engage in client interaction including running teleconferences and client meetings, answering questions regarding content issues on manuscripts, presentations, attend meetings & demonstrate knowledge of content

  • Liaise with client and authors to ensure project timelines are met

  • Delegate and supervise creation of abstracts, manuscript outlines, slides and slide notes as well as fact check for medical accuracy

  • Critique drafts, query and identify resources needed to meet deadline/deliverable and within budget

  • Coach, manage, mentor and provide direction to Biomedical Writers and Associate Medical Directors, where applicable

  • Manage freelance writers – assign projects, provide direction

  • Identify and secure business opportunities on account (e.g. organic growth)

  • Partner with account services and finance on timelines and resource utilization as well as review and assess budget

  • Full command of, and adherence to Phase Five internal processes on all projects and ensure staff understands and follows process and provide recommendations as needed

  • Education: Advanced degree in biomedical sciences (MD, PhD, PharmD)

  • Experience: 5 years academic, pharmaceutical industry or agency experience, experience in multiple therapeutic areas
